Hi all, you've probably seen or heard of the hoax TXT that does the rounds periodically... currently there's one out there saying something along the lines of "Send this TXT to 10 friends and Vodafone will give you $50".

It's rubbish, of course.

Cheers

You've got to love the grammer and spelling mistakes in those text messages. I saw one a couple of months ago that spelt vodafone wrong. You'd think they'd spend 30 seconds to proof read before they sent it

Thanks!

It's amazing how many people get caught out with these Hoax TXT messages - rule number one:

"if it's too good to be true - then it's more than likely a Hoax". smile.gif

At least there haven't been anymore directing people to call *555 if they haven't recieved their credit. (*555 is the Police Traffic number to call from cell phones and goes to your nearest communications centre)

Lol, classic. I have used the *555 number for genuine reasons a few times.

Somebody came in today and they'd received the text from three different people, so believing it was true forwarded the message to 30 people (10 for each text) and then after not receiving the $150 credit came in and asked for the vouchers with her text as proof. Sigh.

Ahahaha. Bet she's the sort of person who responds to people from Nigeria telling them they have $500 Million USD that they need her help in accessing, all for the low price of $10,000 NZD!

And let's not forget the head of one of the biggest banks in town fell for it as well - using millions of dollars worth of funds to "help" someone in Nigeria...

and then there was the great domain name renewal scam of what... 2003? Renewal notices sent to the accounts departments of businesses saying they had to renew their domain name ownership for the next decade for $500... and the accounts folk simply paid them in many instances.

There are some real ratbags out there.

This one made me chuckle:

Call changes on your network are changing. The uglier you are, the cheaper your calls. Yours are now FREE. I would ring, but calls cost me a f***ing fortune.
'A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gate is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared.'
