Work's now begun on assessing the applications, short-listing etc. It's always a really difficult job but we have to find 6 super-special people.

The Vodafone Foundation’s World of Difference programme pays the salary of select individuals each year to work full-time with a youth-related charity of their choice.

Today the Foundation announced its annual call for entries to the World of Difference programme.

More than 130 applicants answered the call last year by submitting proposals on ways to improve the lives of young New Zealanders through a variety of projects.

Lani Evans of Dunedin was selected as a recipient with Volunteer Otago.

“You can improve the lives of young New Zealanders and the Vodafone Foundation can help you do it,” says Lani. “We’ve increased the number of youth volunteers in Otago more than 200 per cent in the last year. Having the time to concentrate on what I am passionate about has been fantastic and helped make a difference for the youth and community of Otago.”

With the World of Difference programme paying their salary and expenses, recipients are able to transform a part-time passion into a full-time commitment. Just ask current World of Difference recipient Joshua Briggs of Wellington.

“I have a strong passion for young people, especially those at risk and transitioning. I too was once in their shoes and it gives me great pleasure to give back to those who are most at need. The World of Difference programme has made that possible.”

Joshua, Lani and four other recipients of the programme front an interactive advertising campaign to attract the next round of applicants. Anyone can hear their stories via an interactive TXT and voice campaign.

TXT ‘Lani’, ‘Bridget’, ‘Cam’, ‘Josh’, ‘Sally’, or ‘Tiffany’ to 710 to hear that recipient’s story. TXTs are free from Vodafone, standard charges apply on other networks.
